What’s hot in remodeling, and who can deliver on the trend?

The National Kitchen and Bath Association released its 2023 Design Trends report and it’s no surprise to us at Home Sweet Home Remodeling. We see homeowners in Northeast Ohio falling right in line with some major trends, and for good reason.

Trend 1: Kitchen and Bath projects are growing bigger, and more involved.

Nearly 40 percent of kitchen projects are larger this year compared with last year, which makes sense to us for three reasons:

  1. Homeowners understand this is likely a once in a lifetime project. If you are going to remodel your kitchen, get the kitchen of your dreams. Remodeling a kitchen or bathroom does keep you from using that room for a number of weeks. Do it all. Do it right. Do it professionally. Whether it’s HGTV or online resources making it clear to homeowners, in order to get a custom kitchen or luxury bathroom takes time, and it’s worth it. Work with someone who understands and can handle the job.
  2.  More Americans are choosing to stay in their homes. According to Redfin, the number of homes sold in Ohio is down 30% year over year. When we were in a seller’s market, those who wanted to move, capitalized. Chances are that most Northeast Ohio homeowners had the fleeting thought of whether to sell when the market was so hot. Even a brief analysis could remind you that you love your location. The reminder that this is your forever home can be enough to make it the home of your dreams. There’s no time like the present.
  3. Data shows more early retirement, forced by the pandemic. In December of 2021 90% of those who left the labor force were over 55. With more time at home, comes more time to enjoy your space and make it exactly what you want as you continue to be active, welcome grandchildren and more. There’s no place like home.

Trend 2: Technology increasingly important.

According to the Pew Research Center, tablet ownership is now comparable across all generations. (i.e. just as many Millennials, Gen Xers and boomers own tablets.)

Because of people’s comfort with consumer-friendly apps and touch-screen technologies, applying touch controls and apps for a smart home is possible now more than ever. And they are getting more affordable.

Home technology makes life easier and efficient – like convection ovens and touch screen control appliances. And often safer and more hygienic, like on touchless faucets and voice-controlled lighting.

Installation of such systems is much more complicated than their use, so make sure you are not trying this yourself. You need a pro.

Trend 3: Baths take on spa-like attributes

The study stated “In the primary bath, clients are looking for smart controls… heated floors, showers and lighting.” For ultimate luxury, you need a design build professional to show you what’s possible and make it a reality. See how we’ve done this for our homeowners.
